Europan launches 3 competitions in Norway

The competitions explore from different angles how architecture and urbanism contribute fundamentally to making more robust society for increasingly turbulent times.
The 18th edition of Europan is finally here. From Norway there are three competitions at very different scales:
- Trondheim: Rethink the museum of the future in this competition to design a new extroverted museum in the centre of Trondheim.
- Roa: Transform a former school into a vibrant and dense village centre in Roa, Lunner. kommune.
- Nome: Make visions for a circular industrial park connected to a new mine for Rare Earth Elements in Nome, Telemark.
Trondheim - A new extroverted museum

The Museums in Sør-Trøndelag and Europan are launching an international architectural competition to design an extroverted new art museum at Leutenhaven in Trondheim city center.
The museum will house Trondheim Art Museum and the Nordenfjeld Art Industry Museum - two institutions with urgent needs for new buildings. A debate about the location has been going on for a long time, but while several studies have pointed to Leuthenhaven as the best location for the only public art museums in Trondheim. While previous studies have focused on the museums' technical needs, they have to a lesser extent explored the museum's role in the city and society. In this competition, we ask what Trondheim gets in return for a museum at Leutenhaven, and what role the museum should play in society for the next 100 years.

Roa - Transform a school into a new village centre
Lunner municipality and Europan are launching an international architectural competition to transform Frøystad school into a revitalized town center for Roa by establishing intergenerational housing, public spaces, and services.
Roa is a small and fragmented village north of Oslo that has suffered from car-centric planning for a long time. There are few public spaces, benches, or good meeting places. The aging population is expected to hit Lunner municipality rapidly, and the municipality needs around 300 age-apartments homes in Roa over the next 15 years. The goal is to use this development to rethink planning in Roa and re-establish Frøystad as a vibrant center with meeting places for young and old.

Nome - Explore concepts for a new mining park

Nome Municipality and Europan are launching an international architectural competition to gather ideas for concepts for a green mineral park associated with a new rare earth mine at Fensfeltet.
The goal is to establish the world's most sustainable industrial park, and ensure that the interventions the mine entails benefit the local population. The task for the architects is to challenge existing practices for industrial and business parks and explore how to shape the enormous surplus masses and landscape changes that will come.
