New leisure, commercial and transport
Looop in GRORUD · OSLO · NORUEGAloOop improves the traditional concept of a roundabout, without loosing its advantages and providing an urban public space. Current traffic density is reduced and transformed to a cycle. Curves control the speed and generate the looop. a new topography holds the first level for traffic and the exchange between metro-bus-car & taxis.
the upper pedestrian level accommodates social exchange. a new car free boulevard, reusing the bridge, protecting the way from the t-bane to the school and connects the shops with the loOop. this inner green node provides different activities, depending on the season or need of the surrounding buildings. these mixed use buildings, attract visitors throughout all hours of the day and every day of the week.

an interesting roadsolution as an idea for discussion, but it is not solving the problems of pollution and noise by putting the trafficflow apart and putting it closer to other excisting housing areas, as the project fails to give a solid platform to develop public spaces with quality and identity. the best part of the project is the sequence where the existing shoppingmall is connected to the new area, but the exploitation is low compared to the investment needed and also the implementation is relying on the decisions made by the road authorities and not by the city.
the project Loop has an interesting exercise in traffic flow and by this it holds a new approach to generate city-spaces, but in the end it do not manage to go as a project. the occupation of these new sites is fairly random with little focus on the public areas which become over dimensioned leftovers between the road system and the proposed buildings.
