MAD for Trondheim
AM889 - TRONDHEIM MAD FOR TRONDHEIM
The Museum of Arts and Design is a vibrant cultural forum for Trondheim, merging art and society through a spatial framework that fosters active interaction and constant reinterpretation. A deep portico acts as a porous threshold, dissolving the traditional divide between inside and outside, city and museum, becoming an active resource for civic life. The portico encircles a central void—a versatile cavity where uses overlap and evolve alongside artistic and social challenges. A dynamic and recognisable urban front emerges from the contrast between dark wooden shingles and bursts of colour from its counter-frames. Half of the façade remains open to appropriation, forming a living platform for polyphonic voices that invite public engagement and anchor the museum in everyday urban life.
