Project:
KNUTEN Reimagining the museum as a public space
AD680 - TRONDHEIM KNUTEN REIMAGINING THE MUSEUM AS A PUBLIC SPACE
Knuten reimagines the museum as an open cultural ground rather than a singular monument. It is a proposal to rethink not just where art is shown, but how it is experienced. By reusing the underground parking structure at Leüthenhaven for exhibition spaces, and placing a cluster of public buildings above, including a café, a library and multi-room, the project creates a porous, inclusive museum integrated into the urban fabric. The atrium becomes the “knutepunkt” that connects the museum together, and creates an architectural pause, a spatial and climatic contrast that refreshes and reorients the visitor mid-journey. This is a museum that invites participation, collaboration, and everyday use - both above and under the surface.
