Project:
Centerpiece

FQ761 - TRONDHEIM CENTERPIECE
The new museum is conceived as a civic centrepiece; a monumental yet open structure placed at the very heart of the site. Its square stone plinth grounds it in the geometry of the historic grid while a softly rounded upper crown hovers above as a new urban landmark. A reinterpretation of the Renaissance loggia, the stone base offers shelter and permanence, while the thin, metallic top creates an ephemeral and luminous contrast.
Responding to the specific site conditions, the project begins with adaptation: the former underground car park is retained and repurposed as museum. The museum becomes a place of convergence: art, city life, and public gathering blend within a generous portico and layered vertical program. Through its monumental form and its relationship with the city, the new building connects with other civic architectures and becomes part of the public realm of Trondheim.
