Project:
A shared strait, a living strait
The industrial character of Risøy has largely closed off its waterfront to the public. Instead of a shared and public connection with the sea, privatized waterfronts isolate Risøy from the dynamic waterfront of Haugesund, creating an ‘other’ that divides the strait. This project proposes to make the strait a shared space by introducing a public boardwalk and continuous public path along the waterfront of Risøy, The boardwalk becomes a new interface to the strait, opening up light traffic and dynamic floating functions on the water. We seek to reimagine the role of a shared infrastructure for the city as an interface that brings new life to the city, challenging us to imagine a life not of privatized landscapes and properties, but for a life worth sharing.
