VE228 - TRONDHEIM WANDERLAB
The project is located in the heart of Trondheim, Norway, on a former parking lot that sits between two key urban anchors: the historical Old Town Square to the east and a major city park to the west. Surrounded by the university, museum, and theatre, the site presents a unique opportunity to serve as a connective node within the city’s public and cultural landscape—an “open cultural living room” for the community.
From the outset, the design strategy focused on maximizing the site’s contribution to public life. Rather than occupying the center of the plot, the building is deliberately placed along the western edge, thereby freeing up a generous urban plaza. This newly created open space not only strengthens the continuity of public movement between existing landmarks but also invites spontaneous civic activities, gatherings, and cultural events.
