About

The project does not deny the past of the place. On the contrary, its educational purpose allows an interpretation of the past and the future functioning of the site. We propose to turn the site of Grønmo into a unique leisure area. It will neither be urban not natural but a true interface between the two worlds. It will complement the existing activities in the forest or in the city.
The strength of the site lies in the clearing effect created by a large opening in the forest as well as in its highly visible location on the hill. The hill is an incredible opportunity to make the site shine beyond its borders and to give it a geographic dimension that echoes the immensity of the forest.
The artificial nature of the ground adds to the identity of the site: the project designs a landscape that reveal the action of man. The new will identity of the site is the meeting of natural elements and man-made constructions. By emphasizing this meeting, the project tells the story of the site, the way it has built up and how it evolves.
What is at stake in the project is to seize the dimension of the open landscape and the functioning of the site in time. This will be made possible though the creation of multiple practices and temporalities on the site: the short time of sorting, the intermediate time of strolling or dirt-biking and the long time of camping. These different temporalities all have dedicated zones with specific uses (sorting, compost, the dirt-biking ground, the vale, the lizardium, the base).

This project presents a frank and inventive approach to the interpretation of existing potential on the site. It proposes a robust, flexible plan by defining different rooms and atmospheres across the site. Its greatest strength however is the suggestion of some appropriate and convincing programs such as a dirt-bike track. This particular use resonates in conceptual, programmatic, and atmospheric terms as a low-maintenance landscape reminiscent of the roughness of the site's immediate history.
The Jury was less convinced however articulation of the more detailed plans largely unresolved, as by the and design well as the which were concept, function of the tower system across the site. further concern was the extent to which the heavy and varied programming proposed would undermine the site's coherency.
