Project:
The museum as a civic square
XA540 - TRONDHEIM THE MUSEUM AS A CIVIC SQUARE
The project aspires to establish a true cultural district, capable of working in synergy with the rest of the city and reflecting Trondheim’s historical identity while projecting itself boldly into the future. By activating public space, reusing underground areas, and balancing permanent and temporary uses, the complex becomes a flexible cultural infrastructure, hosting multiple events and paths while supporting a unified, immersive narrative. It is not just a space for the preservation of art, but a platform for cultural production and social creation where the ordinary opens up to the extraordinary. A museum that doesn’t close but opens; that does not isolate but connects; that does not celebrate the past in a static form, but renews it in the present and offers it as a legacy to the future.
