Somewhere in between
HM751 - ROA SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN
In Roa, Norway, the former Frøystad school site is reimagined as the missing heart of the town. This proposal envisions a socially inclusive, affordable, and identity-building neighbourhood that directly responds to the current situation. By anchoring new housing, local services, and vibrant social spaces at Frøystad, the plan offers a compelling alternative to the commuter-town model and revitalizes Roa with a cohesive village centre.
By recognizing the value in what already exists, the design blends preserved structures, reclaimed materials, and local architectural cues so that the new neighborhood feels both familiar and forward-looking. The project builds upon Frøystads history, creating a social centre that is neither old nor new, but somewhere in between.
