Project:
Knitting Krøgenes

The proposal envisions a patchwork urbanism as a kind of needlework, involving sewing together heterogeneous pieces of fabric into a larger design. A patchwork in which stitches are much more important than the patches.

DF730 - KNITTING KRØGENES

The concept of urban fabric has often been oversimplified as a way of approaching urban problems from a purely morphological perspective and understood as mere two-dimensional patterns in a macro-scale exercise of figure-ground representation, disregarding issues that encompass economic, social, and ecological aspects of the city. Knitting Krøgenes takes a different approach to the design of this district in Arendal, considering the heterogeneity that characterizes the área: a territory where commerce, industry, housing, and nature coexist with complex topography. The proposal envisions a patchwork urbanism as a kind of needlework, involving sewing together heterogeneous pieces of fabric into a larger design. A patchwork in which stitches are much more important than the patches.
