Project:
Infrastructural Archaeology
About
-
The proposal is articulated by five strategic lines:
1. WASTE. Strategies to boost the hidden manmade landscape on the territory
The problem of the garbage and the consumption should be visible. The volume of garbage accumulated (8 million m3) is shown by a new abstract topography that creates a new identity in the territory.2. PERIMETER BELT. Linear boundary strategy:
construction of a belt linking different levels and activities in the 'safe areas' of the artificial topography. The 'safe areas' will be located in the places that can be processed without damaging the waste cells. They will be joined through a belt, defining the boundary between the wood and the operated land.3. BURIED INFRASTRUCTURES. Archaeological transformation of the former structures in the new infrastructures for the growth of the territory
The landfill is a living organism that needs a number of infrastructures in order to avoid collapse, such as gas, electricity, water canalization, etc. infrastructures
Buries "reappear" in the park outlines of the paths, landscape lines, and posts.4. OPEN SPACES. Articulated strategy of the use and activities in open spaces with higher structural
stability
Those safe areas with very low sinking rates will be occupied with many different outdoor activities such as recycling centre, a drive-in cinema, sports facilities, campsites, tribune / terraces, a parking area, vegetable gardens to rent, barter flea market, composting a picnic area, area, astronomical observatory, winter sports, kids area / playground, territory viewpoints.5. TEMPORARY SCHEDULE. Temporary land colonization strategies to its use and occupation
A temporary strategy appears for the settling of the territory, according to the seasonal cycles and the years. -
This scheme is appreciated for its particular approach in evoking Gronmo's history. By registering landfill depth across various locations on the site with poles erected to the corresponding height above the ground, the sheer scale of waste is experienced viscerally.
Additionally, the use of the perimeter road as a key organizing and circulatory element suggests a fitting approach to organizing multiple programs. Less convincing is the viability of the full range of programs proposed across the site, as well as visualizations that were over-reliant on the exploitation of cultural clichés.
