Building Levanger

Levanger is a town with a rich history which tells a vivid story through its preserved buildings. Beyond this strong historical presence, Levanger faces a number of problems similar to so many European cities, such as a desolate city centre and car-centred planning .Our proposal aims to map a path forward through the development of Levanger’s cultural centre by repurposing the existing and poorly functioning library building as well as adding a new building and small scale ephemeral structures.These interventions are inspired by the local building tradition, while standing firmly in the present, adding another layer to the town fabric. We present ideas for intervention in a unique cultural and historical setting and an approach to shifting focus from cars to people in the town centre.
