Project:
A field guide to the adaptive mine
WC266 - NOME A FIELD GUIDE TO THE ADAPTIVE MINE
The Adaptive Mine reimagines Nome’s Green Mineral Park as a circular, flexible landscape where extraction, regeneration, and community growth coexist. Applying the mitigation hierarchy (avoid, minimize, restore, offset) the project protects valuable nature, densifies industry, reuses waste, and shapes regenerative nature buffers. A co-created “social contract” grounds the transformation in trust and participation. By 2030, the first industrial cluster, landscapes, infrastructure, and shared spaces are choreographed together. In the long-term, the park becomes a dense, productive ecosystem. Designed for a volatile future, the framework adapts across sites and scales, turning mining into a catalyst for regeneration.
