About Europan

Europan is a European federation of national organisations, which manages architectural competitions followed by building or study projects, launched simultaneously by several countries on a given theme and with common objectives.

Europan has two main intentions. Firstly it offers cities and developers new and innovative solutions. Through the competition the cities have their futures assessed and new and often unexpected strategies emerge. Each municipality taps into the bright minds of young European architects and can direct their ideas and visions to a local context. Secondly, Europan is an opportunity for young architects to leap-frog the often long and tedious road to the first ever built project. This means the competition functions both as a research lab and a tool for realization of new ideas. Europan represents a competition form that instead of dictating the outcome embraces variation and a holistic take on city development. Also, to participate in Europan means, for both city representatives and architects, to join an constantly growing network of people devoted to the issues of city development, urban planning and architecture.
