SiT - Student services in Trondheim
SiT is responsible for the student services and aims to please students in Trondheim. "SiT" is an abbreviation for "Studentsamskipnaden i Trondheim".
SiT was founded in 1948 and activities are subject to law and the Ministry of Education and Research ensures that work carried out by SiT is in accordance with the regulations. SiT is a non-profit organization led by the students through their majority in the Board. The chair person is always a student.
SiT organizes the services for students at the University and the University Colleges in Trondheim. SiT is responsible for promoting the welfare of almost 30 000 students at NTNU, HiST and DMMH. Although these organizations have the strategic responsibility for facilitating their students, the practical responsibility for doing this, have been delegated to SiT.
SiT works to make sure that students may enjoy a comfortable life besides their studies and the services include: Housing, Bookshops, Cafeterias, Health Centre , Advisors , training/sports facilities and Kindergartens.
SiT runs all the services that students need to make their academic years as hassle-free and efficient as possible.
SiT is also involved in external, commercial activities such as a travel agency, training course facilities, an academic press and building flats for sale. The profit from these activities will be kept within SiT and be used for extended student services in Trondheim.
City of Trondheim
Trondheim is the capital of the county of Sør-Trøndelag, situated in the middle of the country, and is the country’s third largest city with 161.000 inhabitants. Founded in 997, Trondheim is today a centre of education, technical and medical research, with around 30.000 students. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) was established here in the first decade of the 1900s.
The regional hospital (St. Olav Hospital) is also located here, and a new hospital is currently being built. SINTEF, the largest independent research organisation in Scandinavia, has 2000 employees; 1400 of these are located in Trondheim. Trondheim is situated where the river Nidelva meets a large fjord; Trondheimsfjorden.
The cathedral of Trondheim, Nidaros cathedral, is the northernmost medieval cathedral in the world, and the second largest in Scandinavia.
Husbanken - The Norwegian State Housing Bank
Husbanken - The Norwegian State Housing Bank is the governmenst's tool to carry throug the State's housing policy goals. This means stimulating good and reasonable housing quality for all people. We focus on sustainable building, economic use of resources, accesibility for all and good design. Husbanken has a special responsiblility for people with hard conditions i the housing market. Six regional State Housing Bank offices collaborate with the municipalities on achieving these goals. Also, each of the regional offices have a designated task.
