Trondheim is today an important city for industry and commerce, education and research. (NTNU) which is the second largest university in Norway. NTNU is a centre for technological education and research in Norway, with a solid foundation in the natural sciences.

The main challenge is to add an innovative, sustainable, future-oriented student housingcomplex, and create a new public space that links this project to the university campus and other university buildings, the riverside promenade as well as other functions within the surrounding urban tissue.The intention of the developer is to build the student housing within 3 years.

Development of new public spaces is crucial to reengaging the landscape qualities and recreational activities in the urban situation, and strengthening the connection between the existing university and the river. How can the student housing contribute to the new public space? How can the new public space and the student housing become a brand for the possible new university area? How can the public space in itself express sustainable development? How can interesting solutions for sustainable forms of traffic, urban living give new urban models that reduce the amount of space devoted to the car and open for new ways of using the public space?
